How to help your child with Class 5 Maths
- Ask "how did you get that?" Explaining the method out loud catches lucky guesses and builds real understanding.
- Use real things. Coins, a clock, a measuring tape or a pizza make numbers, time and fractions concrete.
- Do a little every day. Five to ten minutes of mixed practice beats one long weekend session.
- Revisit mistakes. Re-try a wrong question two days later. Getting it right then is what shows it has stuck.
Olympiad connection
Maths practice feeds directly into the IMO (International Mathematics Olympiad), whose Level 1 paper mixes logical reasoning, mathematical reasoning, everyday maths and an Achievers section. Our IMO 2026-27 guide has the full pattern. See our guides: Olympiad exams for Classes 1–5 · logical reasoning practice.
