Class 5 reasoning is close to what children see in middle-school entrance and Olympiad papers: multi-step series, harder codes, directions with distances, family-tree puzzles and simple syllogisms ("all cats are animals…").
Here are 10 Class 5 logical reasoning questions with answers.

10 Class 5 Reasoning questions with answers
Ask your child to answer each question out loud first, then tap Show answer to check. The questions get a little harder as you go down each topic.
Patterns & Series (Advanced)
Q1. Which number completes the pattern? 50, 45, 40, 35, ?
A) 25
B) 30
C) 32
D) 34
Show answer
Answer: B) 30
The numbers decrease by 5 each time. So, 35 - 5 = 30.
Q2. Find the next number: 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, ?
A) 18
B) 26
C) 21
D) 20
Show answer
Answer: C) 21
8 + 13 equals 21.
- 2 + 3 = 5, 3 + 5 = 8, 5 + 8 = 13.
- Next: 8 + 13
Common mistake: 18 comes from adding 5, the last gap, again.
Remember: Try adding the two previous terms.
Coding-Decoding (Advanced)
Q3. If PEN is coded as QFO (each letter moves one step forward), how is MAP coded?
A) NBQ
B) MBQ
C) NAQ
D) OBR
Show answer
Answer: A) NBQ
M→N, A→B, and P→Q, so MAP becomes NBQ.
Q4. In a code language, SUN is written as 345 and RUN is written as 145. What is the code for R?
A) 1
B) 3
C) 4
D) 5
Show answer
Answer: A) 1
The common letters U and N have the same codes in both words, so the remaining code 1 represents R.
Direction Sense & Distance
Q5. Which direction is opposite to East?
A) North
B) South
C) West
D) North-East
Show answer
Answer: C) West
West is directly opposite to East.

How to help your child with Class 5 Reasoning
- Ask for the rule, not just the answer. "It goes up by 3 each time" is the real skill.
- Use everyday puzzles. Directions on the way to school, the order of people in a queue or patterns on floor tiles are all reasoning practice.
- Mix question types. In an exam, the types don't come in groups, so practice shouldn't either.
- Draw it out. For directions, rankings and family trees, a quick sketch solves most questions.
Olympiad connection
Logical reasoning appears in every SOF Olympiad (IMO, NSO, IEO, NCO and IGKO), so time spent here pays off across all of them. See our guides: Olympiad exams for Classes 1–5 · logical reasoning practice.
