Class 3 Fractions Questions with Answers
Class 3 fractions practice: halves, quarters and parts of a whole, with answers and explanations.

Fractions are new in Class 3, and they're one of the topics children find hardest later on if the basics aren't solid. A fraction is simply a part of a whole that has been split into equal parts. If a roti is cut into 4 equal pieces and you eat 1, you've eaten one quarter (1/4).
What your child should know
- The parts must be equal. A roti torn into uneven pieces isn't cut into quarters.
- The bottom number (denominator) is how many equal parts; the top number (numerator) is how many we take.
- Half of 8 is 4: a fraction can be a part of a group, not just a shape.
- 3/4 means three out of four equal parts.

Frequently asked questions
- What fractions are taught in Class 3?
- Mostly halves, thirds and quarters: understanding a fraction as equal parts of a whole or a group, and reading and writing fractions like 1/2, 1/4 and 3/4.
- Why do children find fractions hard?
- Because a bigger bottom number means smaller pieces (1/8 is smaller than 1/4), which feels backwards at first. Lots of hands-on cutting and folding fixes this better than rules.
