Class 2 Science Questions with Answers: Free Practice Set
10 Class 2 science questions with answers: living and non-living things, plants, animal habitats, the body and the environment.
- practice-questions
- class-2
- science
In Class 2, science and EVS move from naming things to understanding them: what makes something living, what each part of a plant does, why animals live where they do, how to keep our body healthy, and why air and water matter.
These 10 Class 2 science questions come with answers and a short explanation for each.

Living & Non-Living Things
Q1. Which group has only non-living things?
A) Tree, stone, cup
B) Dog, chair, pencil
C) Stone, spoon, book
D) Bird, ball, shoe
Show answer
Answer: C) Stone, spoon, book
None of these grow or need food.
- Stone, spoon and book are not alive.
- Each other group has a living thing.

Common mistake: The chair is non-living now, but wood was alive.
Remember: Check where a material comes from.
Plants & Their Parts
Q3. A tree has a thick trunk. The trunk is like which part of a small plant?
A) Root
B) Stem

- Eyes cannot help much there.
Remember: Habitat decides which senses matter.
Human Body & Health
Q7. Which activity helps make your heart and muscles stronger?
A) Watching TV
B) Sitting still
C) Napping all day
D) Running at the park

- Color is seen, so eyes.
- Scent is smelled, so nose.
Common mistake: Ears hear sounds, and the tongue only tastes.
Remember: Match each sense to its body part.
Air, Water & Environment
Q9. What happens to water when it gets very cold and freezes?
A) It turns into steam
B) It disappears
C) It becomes air
D) It turns into ice
Show answer

- Buckets can store it for plants.
Common mistake: Bottled water still uses up clean water.
Remember: Collect and reuse water when you can.
How to help your child with Class 2 Science
- Connect it to what they see. Plants on the balcony, ice melting in a glass and shadows at different times of day are all science lessons.
- Ask "why?" after every answer. Science questions in Olympiads often test the reason, not the fact.
- Draw it. Labelling a plant, the parts of the body or the water cycle helps children remember structure.
- Keep it short and regular. A few questions a day keeps facts fresh far better than cramming before a test.
Olympiad connection
Science practice supports the NSO (National Science Olympiad). Its Level 1 paper tests the school science and EVS syllabus plus logical reasoning. Our NSO 2026-27 guide covers the pattern and a study plan. See our guides: Olympiad exams for Classes 1–5 · logical reasoning practice.

Frequently asked questions
- What topics are covered in Class 2 Science?
- Brain & Bounce Kids covers 10 topics in Class 2 Science: Living & Non-Living Things, Plants & Their Parts, Animals & Their Habitats, Human Body & Health, Food & Nutrition, Air, Water & Environment, Matter Around Us, Force & Motion (Basic), Light, Heat & Sound (Basic), Earth & Sky.
- Are these Class 2 Science questions useful for Olympiads?
- Yes. NSO (National Science Olympiad) Level 1 is built on the same school science and EVS topics. Olympiad questions add more "why" and application questions, so ask your child to explain each answer, not just pick it.
- How much Science practice does a Class 2 child need each day?
- Five to ten minutes a day is enough for most children in Classes 1–5. Short, regular practice with an explanation after each mistake works better than a long session once a week.
