In the active voice, the doer comes first: "The chef cooked the meal." In the passive voice, the thing that receives the action comes first: "The meal was cooked by the chef." Class 5 grammar also practises transforming sentences, such as making a sentence negative or turning a statement into a question.
What your child should know
- Active: subject does the action. Passive: subject receives the action.
- Passive voice uses a form of be + past participle: was cooked, is written.
- Negative sentences use do/does/did + not: Rohan does not like apples.
- After does/did, the verb goes back to its base form (like, not likes).
